E-cigarette safety

 

*E-cigarette as a less health damaging alternative on the path to quitting smoking. 

*E-cigarette vs regular tobacco. What can we state about e-cigarettes that is proven by scientific research? E-cigarettes are 95% safer than regular tobacco. 

*E-cigarettes do not damage the health of bystanders. After vaping an e-cigarette your clothes and hands do not have the unpleasant smell of tobacco.

*E-cigarettes are a much more effective way for quitting tobacco in comparison to other methods, for example patches, sprays etc. 

 

The current research-based positions of Public Health England: 

Are e-cigarettes safe?

E-cigarettes are significantly safer than tobacco cigarettes – at least 95% safer. 

Are e-cigarettes a “diving board” to smoking? 

Currently there is no proof that e-cigarettes would pave the path of children or non-smokers to smoking. 

Are e-cigarettes harmful to bystanders?

Currently there is no proof that passive vaping has any health effects (research has been conducted!). 

Will e-cigarettes help quit smoking?

The best thing a smoker can do is to quit smoking entirely. Research has proven that e-cigarettes greatly assist in quitting smoking and significantly
reduce health risks in comparison to smoking. 

Should the Stop Smoking Service recommend e-cigarettes? 

We invite all aid organisations to recognise and support e-cigarettes and recommend them to smokers.
